Painted Rocks

Image
We may have rocks for brains but we are painting rocks! I love any art or craft with a community aspect to it.  People all over the world are painting rocks then hiding them somewhere in a public place where someone else might find them.  Making a surprise discovery of a little painted gem is sometimes all it takes to brighten someone's day. The idea is that people can leave the pebble where they found it, keep it or re-hide it! Some rocks I painted A fun afternoon painting with my 10 year old niece!     Some people like to follow their rock's journey. There are many facebook pages to help them do this. I like the fb page NSW ROCKS . If you join the group and check out their "files", you will find many resources about how to paint rocks. I like their emphasis on not ruining the environment you place them in. For example, no goggly eyes or stickers that could come off. If you want to track your rock, you write fb NSW ROCKS on the back and the post...

Wall hanging by Sharyn

Image
Sharyn made a wall hanging. A beautiful wallhanging featuring Australian native flowers decorating a monogrammed alphabet. (My terrible photography does not do it justice.) I thought at first that she had machine embroidered the letters, but... The letters are painted! Sharyn has combined her love of quilting and folk art. Lovely!

Sharyn's Folk Art Teddy Bag

Image
Remember the good ol' days of folk art? I loved that phase of my craft life and miss playing with paint and brushes! Well, Sharyn has not let it go and recently went to a class where she painted these cute teddy bears. There are certainly still many Folk Artists enjoying their craft and making beautiful things!                              Don't you think it is the cutest thing to actually wash all the kids soft toys and hang them on the line ? I feel a bit mean if I hang them in a painful sort of way, like by the ear. But these ones don't seem to mind :) The class painted their bears on these hessian bags which are huge (perfect for transporting a quilt project) and cost just $3 from Freedom! (The furntiture store). I tried to find the bags on their website but to no avail. I think you have to pop into a store to ask. Maybe they sell them as carry bags if you buy something like 5 cushions fr...

Pretty Nails

Image
My girls love to do their nails in fun and creative ways. Recently when Annalee was sitting for days after her knee operation, the smell of nail polish often permeated the room. This is one design she did for Heidi: and then she did these rainbow nails for Heidi: For herself, she experimented with shading 2 different colours. Black and Burgundy: You can see the shading clearer here. She found out how to do it on the internet. It involved pouring a little polish onto some plastic and dabbing it on with a makeup sponge. My photo doesn't do it justice. It was very striking. Oh to have time to do your nails! Although when I sit for a few hours (my knee op is this fri eeek!) There are many other things I'd like to be doing. My list is way too long! Pretty!
