Cancer Council fundraiser

What a morning we had yesterday!

At The Craft Group we hosted our annual "Cancer Council Morning Tea" as part of the big Australian wide fundraising project, the Biggest Morning Tea.

We did some Craft, then we had some announcements. Then Pam introduced her ex neighbour who is fighting a pretty big battle at the moment with Cancer. Bec was coming home from hospital yesterday and is really not well.  We couldn't ask her to come and speak but we still were encouraged by her. We watched a You Tube clip made by her church. It is just Bec talking and sharing where she sees "Home" to be.
It's only 5 minutes long and is really worth watching...

Then we read out an email Bec sent to me the other day. She said how much Psalm 139 meant to her lately. (I've added it below).

If you are reading this Bec.... thanks for sharing your Hope with us. It was very touching and helps put life into perspective. It is really all about our relationship with God.

Then we shared in an amazing morning tea provided by everyone. I did explain that if we walk briskly, not slowly, to our cars at the end we will burn off any calories consumed at morning tea.

We discovered some hidden talents, for example Lorraine's cake making super powers!

But I will tell you more about them another time.

And THEN, we held an auction! We bid for all sorts of items people donated. Usually we make about $4oo for the Cancer Council and this year we made over a $1000!!!!!

It was amazing. The highlight for me was seeing Lin's quilt of Australian birds, (which she made for her mother who has since passed away), sell for $150. It was so lovely to see Marcella bid for it and give it another home where it will be cherished. (sorry, I didn't get a photo of it).

Phew, it was a busy morning but a lovely one spent with lovely ladies (some of who should not be let loose on an auction floor let me tell you!)

Hey, click 'read more' and read the Psalm Bec has found so encouraging...

Psalm 139 (new living translation)
O Lord, you have examined my heart
 and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!
I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
10
even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
11
I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—
12
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.

To you the night shines as bright as day.

Darkness and light are the same to you.
13
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
17
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
 They cannot be numbered!
18
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!

And when I wake up,
 you are still with me!

23
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
