"Making a Posie from shop bought flowers and cuttings from the garden". Floristry Workshop 1 with Nicola

We are always so so thankful to God when someone with a particular gift/flair/passion crosses our path! Enter Nicola!
Nicola has come to our area, our church family and to our Craft Group with her lovely family and her amazing creativity.
She kindly agreed to running 4 floral workshops this year. We are SO excited.

Flowers are beautiful, cheerful, miraculous, soothing, amazing and often... expensive!
So our first workshop was about how to make a lovely posie of flowers using a grocery store bunch of flowers with clippings of all sorts of flora from our own garden.

We all made a beautiful bunch of flowers definitely worth giving as a gift for only $15. They actually looked a million dollars. (Maybe slight exaggeration.)

Tips  from Nicola:
* Buy fresh flowers, a mixed bunch is good, ensuring one flower would make a good main focal flower to start with.
* Cut the ends of the stems with sharp snips or secateurs at a slight angle.
* Go hunting in your garden. We had Lavender and Rosemary and Lemon scented geranium as well as some Eucalyptus leaves and more. (Our posies smelt divine!)
* Lay out all your pieces, cutting them to length and removing any foliage on the lower 1/3 of the stems.
* Start with a feature flower in your less dominant hand. Keep adding other stems, turning your bunch clockwise as you go. If you angle each stem slightly, they should twist a bit like a stack of spaghetti making them settle nicely later in a vase.

* Now... Trust yourself! Look and add. Add and look. If you don't like it, you can put it all down and start again. But this is not meant to look perfectly neat. It is a beautiful and organic looking posie made with love - not frustration ;)
* Tie your posie with some twine to hold it together.
* Roll in brown paper and tie with a ribbon and present it to yourself or someone else you love.

Here are some pics of the day.

Such a lovely florist :)

Gorgeous eucalypts.

The company, vibe and scent of the room were all perfect!

My stash :)

Wrapping them nicely gives a professional look.

Notice the Florist's 2 supervisors in the background?

For a small posie, fold the paper in half diagonally making 2 points at the top, then roll.

It's a wrap!

I can see you K!

We all had our photos taken next to the "So Thankful" sign.
Some ladies made me promise I wouldn't put their photo anywhere.
I can't remember who so...
Here am I ;)

I snuffled some offcuts for a small extra posie at the end.
