ALL day "Open House" Craft Day

Image
We had a really lovely day on Saturday. The Craft Group held an ALL day DIY craft day called "Open House" There were just 17 of us and it was so nice listening to music, chatting and crafting. It was a free day and ladies brought yummy food to share and Mum brought some soup for lunch. So relaxing! There were some lovely projects being worked on. Cards, quilts, scrapbooking and knitting. Here is a sneak preview of Wendy's quilt. She is making a big queen sized quilt for her bed. The embroidery, cute, wise sayings, colours and design make this a project to keep an eye on. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the lovely day on saturday! This Thursday is DAY 1 of The Craft Group for Term 3.  After a few weeks break it will be nice to see everyone again.

An Apron for Queenie

Image
OK, it's time for a lovely story. Once upon a time, Joan made a pretty peg apron for a friend. One day in central Queensland, a lady called Queenie happened to be looking at our blog. She liked the apron and emailed me to ask if we sell them. Joan was flattered that someone liked her handiwork but wasn't looking for a new career in selling her creations. To cut a long story short, Joan was happy to make an apron for our new Northern blog friend. Queenie did request that white was not so practical on their rural property, so this was Joan's new creation... Joan didn't want any money for it so "The Craft Group" paid Joan and we sent it with a few other little gifts to Queenie for nix.  Would she like the new funky print?  Would she think we are strange for asking her to take a photo of her wearing the apron at her clothesline?  Would she be offended by the great little recipe book we sent her which also contained the great news of Jesus...

Holiday Bible Club

Image
We are almost at the end of a 2 week winter holiday. In the first week our church ran our annual Holiday Bible Club. A great week of working together as a church family to provide a fun place for kids to come and hear about the best news they could ever hear. So it was very fun and very worthwhile. Here is one little idea I'd like to share. As each child registered at our "Jungle Jamboree" HBC, they received a "Jungle Survival Pack". Inside was a chatterbox all made up, with all the questions written on it already. An instant game. Then there was a find-a-word puzzle made using words relating to our HBC. Then there was the little pack of real jungle survival nutrition... monkey poo, killer baby snakes and a giant spider egg*. That was a huge hit with the kids. Then there was some info about our church and an invitation to join us and check out our church website. Oh and a packet of Scoobie doo biscuits. Some lovely volunteers, Carla, R...

Snowball Yarn bag by Lorraine

Image
When the snowball yarn first came out everyone made scarves. But I think it is better suited for things like this cute bag made by Lorraine L. It uses 2 balls of snowball yarn and a bit of other yarn for the handle and little flap. The great thing is that I have the pattern for you! (Thanks for the tip Lorraine). Find the pattern here!  It's on the Lincraft website (together with heaps of other cool free patterns!) (I like Lorraine's better than the original! The Lincraft bag looks like it's a corn on the cob!)

Watch this on TV

Image
If you have access to Channel 9 on TV (Sydney) and are home at 9pm Tuesday evening, check out the new series that everyone is talking about. "The Bible" Looks amazing. I'm looking forward to checking it out tuesday night. There are ten, one hour weekly episodes. They say it has been put together consulting many Biblical scholars to get it true to the actual Biblical accounts. Click HERE for a sneak peak! Read more about it on "The Bible Society" website  HERE. If you watch it, tell me what you think in the comments! (or email me:  thecraftgroupplus *at* gmail *dot* com) I'm not keen on images of Jesus, especially where he is a handsome white caucasian (I'm sure He wasn't!) but I will wait and see. I will even watch it 'properly' i.e. not knitting or blogging or cleaning up emails at the same time. That way I will save my family from my annoying questions like "what just happened?"  :)

Fold a shirt in 2 seconds

School holidays. Holiday Bible Club. Helping with drama and Puppets and bits 'n pieces. Telling kids about Jesus. Keeping up with the house work. Providing a taxi service. Having a few days in a holiday house down the coast. Nice. But... no blogging time! I have a super lovely blog post waiting to be published about the apron we made for our blog friend in Central Queensland. But here is a little tutorial you can master in the mean time, until I am back in blogland. I first saw this on a Japanese You Tube clip. Now there are heaps of people sharing this technique. Have fun with your laundry!
