I feel like eating a banana.


With bananas at $13 a kilo since the cyclones, we have been holding off. Last week I bought 2 bananas and divided them up between the 6 of us. Each one cost about $2.70. Wow, we had a third of a banana each. But, I have seen them for $10 per kilo, so things are looking up. Then I can go back to my normal routine of buying bananas, then those that don't get eaten are put in the freezer where they go black on the outside and gooey on the inside and are perfect for making banana muffins.

    Diana, I am missing them soooo much! I used to make banana bread at least once a fortnight! It was my staple, give to new mum, grieving family, neighbours, mummy friends etc! Now it's cookies!
    We have been buying them down here for $7.98! Things are looking up!

    I have still been buying Bananas for my dear mum at almost what ever cost it is her favourite food and at 93 I am not going to deny her. My daughter calls her grandma My favourite child...... (sour grapes)

These cute little Christmas stockings were made by Mandy. There was no real pattern to follow so we worked it out easily enough by sharing crochet know how and made little stocking decorations until they were everywhere. Wil and Bev G made a heap! Lantern making... a craft for kids

The school holidays are nearly over. Some kids have one more week. Why not get creative and make some pretty lanterns to hang in your bedroom? (Caitlin and Ryan... if you make one and take a photo, I'll put it on the blog!) A teacher at school made these with her grade 3 class.  I was the photographer, so I captured the pictorial step-by-step instructions.

A project a day! I have so many photos of lovely things which have not yet appeared here on the blog. So, I am featuring a new craft item every day for 2 weeks, all made by ladies at The Craft Group. To continue… Project 5: Mitred Granny Squares by Janice Crocheted Granny Squares are in again and, as with all come-backs, there are clever variations. These mitred* squares are eye catching and can look stunning depending on the colours used. Janice made this green one which has a lovely 3D effect made by her use of various tones of graduating greens. It looks stunning in a whole finished rug. (*also spelt 'Mitered', depending on where you live).  Janice is then working on some other squares using bright coloured stripes, giving the finished product a completely different look.
